Good Friday was not going to be a good day for shopping so it seemed a good day to go into the Abel Tasman National Park. We boarded at water taxi at Kaiteriteri at 9 am. I got off at one of the earlier stops but Tarun carried on to do the 'big boys' stuff, meeting up with me later in the afternoon. I had a lovely day with a bit of swimming, a bit of walking, a bit of talking, and a lot of reading on the beach......and maybe even a bit of a nap.
We might have been in the middle of nowhere but there were still quite a lot of people around .. mainly young European people on working holidays. There were walkers, families and kayaker and a constant stream of people coming in and out by boat.
Tarun loved his day and would have enjoyed it if his walk had been even longer. I think the woman who advised us as to the time it would take didn't realise how fast and fit he is. He also enjoyed being in and on the water.
I have never been past Kaiteriteri Beach before so it was a great experience for me as well. It is a stunning place that deserves its reputation .
The next day was a more leisurely start as we were only planning to drive to Westport. Once again a relatively short drive turned into something much longer as we took a detour to Lake Rotoroa. It was an absolutely beautiful place but as we stepped out of the car we were welcomed by the sand flies. Fortunately I was prepared and the repellant came out in lightening speed. It didn't take Tarun long to get into the water despite the fact that it must have been pretty cold. He warmed up on the bush walk we went on.
The drive to Westport was lovely and the place we were staying at was equally as lovely. I had booked a cabin at Carters Beach, a new place for me and I must admit I was amazed at how beautiful it was. We walked along what appeared to be an endless beach just as the sun was setting. For those of you who've never been it is one of the biggest and most deserted beaches I've ever been on.
