First Day in Auckland

It was an early morning arrival in Auckland for Tarun. I knew he was going to be tired and I also knew that I was going to have to keep him awake for the whole day so he could adjust to the time. We were going to have to keep busy.

I was happy that Auckland put on a beautiful warm Autumn day for him. The temperatures were warm and the sky was blue ... Perfect! The only unfortunate thing was that we hit the early morning rush hour and the trip home was very slow .... maybe it reminded Tarun of being in Delhi. His first observations ....the number of women drivers and the number of Asians. Well we are one of the worlds most multi-cultural cities and we are up there on women's rights being the first country in the world to give women the vote.

A shower and breakfast were first on the list, followed by a walk in our beautiful Cornwall Park. Tarun must have thought he was at home with the cows wandering over the road. Of course I had to have my mandatory morning coffee and Tarun had a fruit smoothie .. I'm pretty confident that I'm not going to ever  convert him to the delights of a flat white.
Actually he'd already made himself chai at my home... glad I had ginger !

Then it was a trip to the mall to sort out a SIM card . First day here and Tarun was already handing out his business cards to young girls!!!

My young  3 year old grandson Ben had already met Tarun via Skype and was very excited about his arrival so we had promised him that Tarun would pick him up from daycare. Tarun was Bens friend immediately and was bombarded with information. It appears that every day during "Tui Hui"the children have been learning how to greet people in other languages so Ben even managed a "nameste" for Tarun.

Tarun had been talking about swimming for months and I had promised lots of it so we headed down to Kohimarama beach for a quick swim. If you look very very carefully at the photo you will see a very small speck close to the horizon .. .. that is Tarun heading for Rangitoto Island!

We took the long way home round the waterfront with a quick stopover at Bastion Point before heading home for dinner and that very welcome bed.
