Otago Penninsula

Taruns plans to do yoga on the beach at sunrise all turned to custard as it rained during the night and wasn't all that great I'm the morning either ... well that was his excuse anyway.

We drove into the city, had a look around and compared the Dunedin railway station with the Indian ones. Not one person on the Dunedin platform!!

Tarun went walking again and I investigated the Otago Early Settlers Museum. I have Scottish ancestors who settled in this area so I was quite keen to investigate it ... and I'm very glad I did as I may have made a genealogical breakthrough !

Time for lunch before heading out on to the Otago Penninsula where Tarun went climbing to a very distinctive cone and I explored the lower areas.

Fortunately there was good cellphone reception in the area as Taruns track didn't finish up where we thought it did and we had to find each other via phone. I picked him up somewhere on Highcliff Road and then we drove down to Sandfly Bay. It is a stunning area with beautiful views.

Although we didn't walk right down to the beach we could see sea lions lying on the sand.

Boulder Beach  is the next beach in this area. One of my great great grandfathers was one of the original settlers in this area and owned the land here. It wasn't easily accessible as its now a wildlife conservation area so we just viewed it from a distance.

Late afternoon we got to the motel where we were staying. It was cold!! Definitely the coldest we've been so far. Tarun has discovered electric blankets so maybe tonight he'll be able to use one.
